What is Connect?
Connect at York is private practice specialising in supporting social interactional, communication and interpersonal skills for children, adolescents and adults.
At Connect at York, the focus is on understanding social interaction and connection in ways that are practical, respectful and meaningful to everyday life.
Rather than teaching fixed rules or scripts, sessions involve actively exploring how interactions work, what feels challenging and what supports communication feeling easier or more comfortable. Together, we look at real situations, notice patterns and test out different ways of responding, with the aim of supporting authentic connection that also works in the environments people move through.
Sessions are held on a one-on-one basis and are shaped around the individual. They are practical and interactive, with space to reflect, practise and make small purposeful changes where this feels helpful. The focus is on understanding what to try, when to try it and how it feels in real life.
The emphasis is on building understanding and confidence and on identifying practical adjustments that can support more comfortable, satisfying interactions in everyday life.
Areas commonly explored include things like:
navigating conversation and group situations
approaching others and finding ways to join in that feel manageable
understanding and responding to social conflict
making sense of social dynamics and cues
reflecting on how communication is experienced by others
developing and maintaining friendships that feel healthy and sustainable
finding ways to manage challenging social situations including experiences of exclusion or bullying
